Victoria was desperately trying to find someone to take in a homeless female dog that she had been watching for a month in a South Los Angeles neighborhood. Victoria and other residents provided her food and water, but no one was able to take her in. We learned that the dog was forced to be the companion of a homeless woman before escaping, regularly visited Victoria's neighbor's dog to 'hangout' through the gate that separated them, and was attacked by a larger dog while trying to find shelter. We rescued the little dog, named her Lilianna (Forte dog #1272), and discovered an incredibly trusting and well-behaved sweetheart. I am working hard to find this precious girl a person who will not discard her like her last one.
Belle and I are participating in Strut Your Mutt, the nationwide dog walk fundraiser hosted by Best Friends Animal Society to save the lives of animals in shelters across America. Every day, more than 9,000 dogs and cats are killed in America's shelters simply because they don't have safe places to call home. The funds we raise will go directly to Forte Animal Rescue, the organization I volunteer with because they saved Belle 6 years ago from the South LA shelter. Although we are unable to participate in the live Los Angeles event at Exposition Park on October 21st, we have committed ourselves to our own run that same morning, similar in length to the route of the actual event. Our training has begun!
We can really use your help to reach our goal of $1500. Forte Animal Rescue is 501(c)(3) nonprofit that depends solely on donations from individuals like you. Donations are used to primarily cover medical, spay/neuter, vaccination, boarding, and training expenses, as well as dog care supplies and food. Everyone is a volunteer and we have no office space to rent. Donations are tax-deductible and Forte Animal Rescue receives all funds our team raises, after transaction fees. We appreciate you for any donation made for this fundraising event.
Thank you so much for your continued support!
Helen and Belle (Forte Animal Rescue, #874)
In memory of (another) Belle, one of the most difficult dogs I found a home for, so one of my greatest success stories. RIP, my Little Friend.
