Dear Friends & Family,
Thank you for visiting my Strut Your Mutt page! It's been a busy year, and Elphie and I are fundraising for Rescuzilla, walking in solidarity with other nationwide shelters and rescue organizations to raise support for animal welfare.
Today and every day, homeless animals in America's shelters are being euthanized -- but with your help, we can prevent euthanasia of homeless animals in America's shelters in so many ways -- to keep more pets with their owners, prevent unwanted litters through spaying and neutering, increase adoptions, and give each one the chance it deserves to be someone's beloved companion. This year, two dogs who got that chance through Rescuzilla were Mazzy Star and Gus (aka the delicious Angusburger). Here are their stories!
Mazzy Star was found wandering in a NYC park early this year when she wound up at the city's municipal shelter, Animal Care Centers. She was an older little smushy-faced mix with some lingering medical concerns, but she caught the eye of our Co-President Carolina immediately. Hernia repairs, cardiologist consultation, mammary tumor removals, and a dental cleaning later, she has been through the ringer with a smile on her face no matter what life throws at her. She's truly one of the most laid back, sociable little dogs we've ever had the pleasure of caring for. Today, Mazzy is healthy (and happy as always) and enjoying lots of neck rubs from her new soul mates, adopters Hannah and Jerry.
The day we saw Gus on ACC's website, he practically jumped through the screen with his big doofy grin and quirky personality. On paper though, he didn't stand out much - an 8-yr old, 65 lb pitbull with no dramatic background story. Just a stray dog whose family had come back for him once, but not the second time. He was a young soul with contagious enthuasiam despite his creaky old body, which had orthopedic issues and arthritis. We took a chance on him and patched a plan together with 5 different foster moms and a few kind folks at K9 Experts doggy daycare in Guttenberg, NJ. With the help of each of these volunteers, plus the fabulous teams at Worth Street Veterinary Center, Animal Medical Center, and Water 4 Dogs, Gus began his journey of physical therapy and surgery to make sure he can live comfortably and bounce joyfully for years to come. Gus is still awaiting a permanent family that will adore him as the one-of-a-kind gem we know he is!
For Mazzy, Gus, and thousands of animals like them, the money Elphie and I are raising will go directly to save lives, fund adoption programs and spay/neuter services, and keep animals out of shelters. Please support us by donating to our page:
