Support SB 741 for safe and humane communities
Dear [Decision Maker],
As a Michigan resident, I urge you to support Senate Bill 741, an important piece of legislation that would eliminate breed discrimination in our state. A fundamental goal of SB 741 is to achieve safe and humane communities. We want our communities protected from dangerous dogs and we want abused dogs protected from reckless owners.
Comprehensive dangerous dog laws put the safety focus squarely on the behavior of both dog and owner. Outdated breed discriminatory laws have been scientifically proven to be the wrong approach to making a community safe. But holding all dog owners accountable for the behavior of their animals will guarantee a safer Michigan. Everyone wants to see our communities protected from dangerous dogs.Instead of punishing innocent dogs for being born into a certain breed or for the way they look, Michigan communities should hold owners accountable and responsible for dogs that are actually dangerous. All of our state's communities deserve comprehensive and consistent dog laws that demand responsible dog ownership and hold reckless owners accountable when their poor decisions result in dogs or people being hurt. Reckless owners should be punished -- no excuses, no exceptions.
Please support SB 741 to promote safe and humane communities throughout Michigan. All Michigan residents who follow the right safety rules as responsible dog owners should be allowed to own whatever breed of dog they choose. Thank you.
