MD: Be the voice for our county's dogs and their people

Repeal the Prince George’s County “pit bull” ban.

Breed bans are costly and proven to be ineffective at promoting public safety; Prince George’s County remains the only community in the region to keep a similar type of law despite these facts.

The County Council will be reviewing the entire animal ordinance in the coming months and there is momentum to repeal the ban.

Take action: Tell county officials you support a full repeal. Tell them to keep the law focused on behavior, not breed.

All dogs are individuals — yet for decades, Prince George’s County has held on to an outdated and discriminatory “pit bull” ban.

Please repeal the discriminatory and ineffective "pit bull" ban

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am a Prince George's County resident and I want to urge you to repeal the ineffective and discriminatory "pit bull" ban.

We all share the same goal of a safe and humane community. The current "pit bull" ban isn't doing anything to promote public safety. In fact, it's actually an impediment since enforcing it diverts precious tax dollars away from county services that could actually make us safer, like more animal control and police officers.

I know that a change like this can be difficult, but the vast majority of county residents stand ready to support you as we move towards repealing this outdated and discriminatory law.

Please stand up for the property rights of responsible dog owners and repeal the county's ineffective "pit bull" ban.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
