Best Friends - Save Them All(R)
Dear Friend,

Incredible.

That’s the word I use to describe the progress we’ve made together over the last five years. Since Best Friends declared the goal to achieve no-kill in every community across the country by 2025, 3.4 million more lives have been saved in our nation’s shelters and the national save rate is now 83%. That’s phenomenal — and that’s how far-reaching your support has been.

While these numbers are amazing, we can do even better. That’s why it’s so important to keep working together. It’s going to take all of us to Save Them All.

Here’s where we are today:

To bring the entire country to no-kill by 2025, we must continue to pioneer programs that work “outside the box” to save lives. Our new shelter collaborative program matches no-kill shelters (mentors) with struggling shelters (mentees). The mentors help the mentees get to no-kill, with support from Best Friends. This innovative program is one more way that we are ramping up lifesaving across the country. Major components of our lifesaving efforts include:
  • Adoption, foster and spay/neuter programs that find homes for pets and reduce the number of pets entering shelters in the future
  • Collaborative and educational programs and initiatives that provide under-resourced shelters with the support they need to save more lives
  • Community cat programs that save the lives of free-roaming and stray cats, some of the most at-risk pets in shelters
  • Advocacy and grassroots initiatives that help stop puppy mills, end breed-specific legislation, and keep pets with their families and out of shelters

As of 2020, nearly half of all shelters in the U.S. are no-kill. And Best Friends is dedicated to partnering with shelters nationwide to provide lifesaving support. With many shelters still struggling, our focus is on areas of the country where homeless pets need us most. Last year, Best Friends and our network partners provided critical support in Texas, Florida and California, three of the top five states with the biggest lifesaving needs in 2019. Your generosity has made these strides possible.

We have just four more years to achieve our goal of making the country no-kill for dogs and cats. So, it’s crucial to keep up the momentum and continue to expand this lifesaving work. Please continue to support these and all of our programs, which make such a huge difference for so many animals. Because of you, together we are creating a brighter future for our best friends in every corner of the country.

Thank you for being such a steady and devoted friend to the animals. We are profoundly grateful for your generosity.
