Best Friends - Save Them All(R)
Kittens being transported by Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
Dear Friend,

This year marks the 40th anniversary since the founders of Best Friends Animal Society broke ground in a remote red-rock canyon in southern Utah. And thanks to caring people like you, it’s become the largest no-kill sanctuary in the country — headquarters for our lifesaving work together and the heart and soul of our mission.

As you probably know, for all the love that goes into saving lives, there are a lot of logistics too. Keeping this important work going and growing is an ever-expanding task that demands our constant care and, yes, repair. That’s why we’re asking you to lend a hand and help fund $637,000 in critical improvements to the Sanctuary and lifesaving centers.

One of the most effective vehicles for saving homeless animals is, well, a vehicle. Transport vans are often key to moving cats and dogs out of crowded shelters to places where the demands for adoptable pets are much higher.

Just ask Baja Blast and Code Red, tiny kittens found huddled inside a box in a North Carolina landfill. A good Samaritan brought them to the Robeson County Animal Shelter where it just so happened that Best Friends was arranging a transport out for several dogs. The kittens hitched a ride, and upon arrival in New York, the adorable fuzzballs were scooped up by loving families. All they’d needed was a lift.

Whether it’s the van that carries animals to locations where their chances for adoption are greater or road repairs required for safe travel around the Sanctuary, the right tools and equipment literally go the distance to ensure homeless pets a bright future. To keep the machinery humming, the animals happy, and the country on track to reaching no-kill in 2025, these are the most urgent needs on our lifesaving wish list:

For the Sanctuary: Road repair of hazardous potholes and washboards: $35,000, Roof replacements for animal care centers and other buildings: $40,000, Golf carts for pet, volunteer, and caregiver transport: $12,000, Epoxy coating to keep Cat World’s floors and walls clean: $130,000, Weather-proofed drywall and floors for Dogtown: $130,000, Sanctuary vehicle for hauling heavy supplies: $55,000, Welcome center van for Sanctuary tours: $65,000, Horse Haven utility task vehicles: $50,000. For lifesaving centers and programs: Houston mobile adoption unit: $60,000, Van for East Coast region transports: $60,000. Total: $637,000

We hear you — roof replacement and road repair make for some pretty dry reading. But we’ve got a hunch that, like us, you’re inspired by the many animals whose daily care depends on these foundational fixes. On behalf of them, we are profoundly grateful for your support in every aspect of this effort, and we thank you again for keeping the wheels of this lifesaving work in motion.

Together, we will bring the entire country to no-kill in 2025.
