If your organization is already on Shelter Pet Data Alliance, there's now a quick and easy way for new users to find and join your organization's account! Users creating new accounts will be directed to search for their organization using organization name, EIN, location, or any combination of those fields. Plus! When a new user requests to join your organization on SPDA, your organization's account admins will now receive an email notifying them to approve their request. This streamlined SPDA process for adding a new user to an existing organization will make it easier for when you onboard new employees so they can make use of the valuable insights and reports available. If you care for pets on a stray hold, pre-adoption helps you make sure you're not missing out on interested adopters during the holding period. You might assume that only small, highly desirable dogs get pre-adopted, and they do! But Memphis Animal Services started pre-adoptions in 2019 and found that most of the dogs getting pre-adopted were actually medium dogs over 6 months old - the exact population most in need at their shelter. Are you interested in starting pre-adoptions at your org? Here's a step-by-step how-to for getting started!

Community cats take the spotlight today in Andrea Sachs' The Washington Post article about a community cat named Kitty Snows who has divided a D.C. neighborhood. Best Friends' Chief Mission Officer Holly Sizemore offered some insight. "Community cats can be divisive," says Sizemore. "Many people see an animal living outside and their hero impulse kicks in. They want to rescue it from the cruel streets and pamper it. But community cat programs — which trap, neuter and release — are helping curtail the world’s overwhelmingly large feral cat population."
