Dear Friend, Curious, wide-eyed, hungry and loud. That’s how the Williams family described their foster kittens: Iggy, Bowie, Glamour and Roxy. With their fragile immune systems and need for around-the-clock care, kittens are the most vulnerable of shelter residents. Foster homes not only free up space in shelters, they provide a safe, nurturing and healthy environment for these tiny beings — and the Williams family wanted to be part of that lifesaving. Best Friends is helping our network partners around the country grow their kitten foster programs, creating lifesaving resources like training manuals for foster families, to set overburdened shelters on the path to fostering success. The Williams family quickly settled into a groove with their new charges — and found the routine wasn’t difficult at all. Each family member had a specific job, from who prepared the food to who filled the bowls. It wasn’t long before Iggy, Bowie, Glamour and Roxy were healthy and strong enough to be spayed or neutered and then move on to loving homes of their own. As for the Williamses, they were hooked. They’ve now fostered upward of 60 kittens, and the kittens who arrive at their home are guaranteed to leave dog-tested, kid-friendly, cat-savvy and ready for just about anything.
