Dear Friend,
Kitten season is in full swing, and that means there’s no time to waste to make sure these little lives get the chance they deserve to grow and thrive. But did you know that some of the most critical lifesaving work goes on year-round through trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs run by Best Friends and our network partners?
TNR is not only the most humane method of preventing community cats — and countless litters of kittens — from entering the shelter system, it’s proven to have the largest overall lifesaving impact for cats. And once they are sterilized and vaccinated, these cats go back to their communities to live healthy, happy lives.
That’s why TNR is a vital part of Best Friends’ cat lifesaving program: Reaching no-kill nationwide by 2025 means fewer cats entering shelters in the first place. Today, you can help ensure that TNR programs continue to save the lives of cats all around the country.
Saving lives is not always easy. Sometimes it means working with local lawmakers to establish pilot TNR programs where none existed, as we did in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Other times it means teaming up with local network partners, as we did in Charlotte, North Carolina with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Services, Humane Society of Charlotte and Stand for Animals, to focus spay/neuter efforts in neighborhoods with the highest numbers of at-risk cats.
No matter the challenges, Best Friends is committed to championing lifesaving when and where pets need us most. Indeed, together with you, Best Friends directly helps save the lives of roughly 60,000 cats and kittens every year; with our network partners, we help save even more.
As always, we are so grateful to be able to count on you. Thank you for your unfailing kindness to cats and kittens — and to all pets — each and every day. Together, we will Save Them All.
