Waggytail Rescue

Thank you for visiting our Strut Your Mutt team page! Waggytail Rescue is an all-volunteer, NYC based animal rescue charity dedicated to the rehabilitation and rehoming of small breed dogs pulled from high kill shelters throughout the country. Founded in 2004, we have rescued over 6,000 abandoned dogs and even a few cats and kittens!

Our program is focused on finding forever homes for animals in urgent circumstances by saving dogs from euthanasia in over-crowded shelters. We take in between 300 - 500 abandoned dogs each year. Through the tireless work of our many volunteers and amazing fosters, we are committed to finding forever homes for New York's littlest strays. However, even with the efforts of rescues like ours and Best Friends, more than 4,100 dogs and cats are still killed in America's shelters every single day simply because they don't have safe places to call home. That number should be zero. That’s why our team is participating in Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt event to raise money, and we need your help.

Please join us either by registering for our team or donating to one of our team members. Your donation is tax deductible and each participating animal welfare organization keeps 100 percent of the money raised after transaction fees. Your donation will support our life saving efforts and help us to provide medical care and supplies for the dogs we take in.

Another way to help in a non-monetary fashion is to foster one of our pups during the time between being pulled from the shelter and finding their permanent home. As Waggytail does not have a physical shelter location, all of our animals are fostered by our wonderful volunteers in their loving homes. Time in a home allows dogs to decompress, recover, build trust, and gives them a chance to show off their true personalities! This helps us better present their profile and place them with an adopter. Our goal is to try to find the perfect match between the rescued animal and the adopter. For some fosters, this ends up being them! The time commitment can be as short as a few days, and greatly helps rescues like ours without physical shelter locations. Thank you for your support!
