UPDATE SEP. 15: Over Labor Day weekend, as Hurricane Dorian threatened the southeast coast, Lucky Dog took in 2 dogs that had to be evacuated from a FL shelter sure to flood if the storm hit. We then got a call from our shelter partner in Florence, SC. They needed to evacuate to make room to accommodate any 4-legged storm victims when Dorian hit. We acted fast and on Labor Day we held an emergency transport, ushering 19 dogs (including two litters of puppies) to safety. Four days later I was part of a group of Lucky Dog volunteers that drove to Florence ahead of the storm to help. As Dorian swepth through, we rescued three dogs who had been left tied up outside in the rain. The next day we worked at the shelter - cleaning, organizing, working with the dogs and cats - and the next morning we drove back to DC with a van full of more than 30 dogs and cats. Many of those shelter pets are now living in forever homes, and the rest are in foster while they pick their families.
I'm incredibly proud to have been able to make this trip, and to be part of such an amazing team. This work, these results, are why I Strut every year!
There are no perfect dogs, or perfect humans, but there are perfect matches.
Ten years ago I was part of a group of volunteers that came together with a common goal: save the lives of adoptable pets in overcrowded rural shelters and find them forever homes. But not just any home, a home that was the right match for the dogs and the people. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue was born, and 10 years later we've saved more than 14,000 lives.
That's 14,000 adoptable pets that were rescued from shelters where they faced euthanasia. 14,000 pets who found loving forever families of their very own. 14,000 lives that were ONLY saved because of our generous supporters.
Lucky Dog rescues dogs and cats from overcrowded and underfunded shelters with low or no adoptions. Each week we welcome transports of pets from South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Puerto Rico, and even Hawaii. We take in animals with medical issues that other organizations pass up. And when we rescue a litter of puppies, we never leave the mom behind. Lucky Dog is a volunteer powered organization with minimal staff that relies heavily on donations to fulfill our mission. That's why I'm participating in the Best Friends Animal Society Strut Your Mutt. This is my 6th year strutting for Lucky Dog and I'm hoping it will be my best yet.
Help me save lives with a tax-deductible donation to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. Every penny raised will go directly to rescuing shelter pets.
