I will live stream my run here:

Also, please note before tuning in that I will be running without a shirt! I'm not looking to offend anyone, but my garage can get hot and humid, even in winter, and I will be sweating a lot. :)
Hey everyone! Running has been a big part of my life for the last 17 years. In the absence of racing over most of 2020, I decided to take on a new challenge: on Sunday, December 20th starting at about 1 PM MST, I will be running a 50 mile time trial on my treadmill in my garage. It's been a really long time since I've taken a season to focus on something longer than a marathon. So, while I've never run 50 miles in less than 7 hours, that run was a decade ago, and I feel ready to target an aggressive goal of finishing in under 6 hours. I will start running and not take any breaks beyond very quick bathroom breaks when necessary, and I will eat and drink while running. 6 hours will be very hard to accomplish. Can I do it this quickly? I guess we'll find out. :)
This is a big challenge for me, and I won't pretend that it doesn't make me nervous to take this on. Don't get me wrong. I trained hard. Really hard. I recently completed running every single street in Salt Lake City, which took over 1000 miles of running to complete. I got my training mileage up to 110+ miles a week at its peak. I did big workouts to toughen my legs and my mind. I practiced long distance running and eating with 4+ hour runs on my treadmill. But, this is still going to hurt. A lot. But, I know how it feels to be fatigued and still have several hours to run. You know what hurts more than running really far at at a fast pace? The knowledge that there are still about 1700 dogs and cats killed every day in American shelters just because they don't have a safe place to call home. Daria and I have worked with Best Friends through our @orangeisthenewblackandtan instagram page to promote the adoption of special needs animals, which are often some of the most at risk, but while promotions is great, they still need funds to reach their goal to bring the country to no-kill by 2025. My goal of running 50 miles in under 6 hours is going to be hard to achieve, and so is Best Friend's goal of getting the US to zero shelter deaths. But, if there's anyone that can help the country get there, it's Best Friends. I hope that as I'm suffering through my run, you'll consider making a generous donation!
Thank you for donating to help save animals' lives. Together, we will Save Them All.
