This year, I am running the 170 mile Grand to Grand race on behalf of Best Friends Animal Society and in memory of Mr. Wiggles. Mr. Wiggles was my buddy and constant companion for 10 years -- and he was a rescue. I rescued him in Hawaii and he was definitely a Hawaii dog - swimming in the ocean, hiking in the forests, and even surfing in an outrigger canoe with me. He moved to San Diego and became a Cali dog - stand up paddle boarding in the coastal lagoons, and hiking the mountians of San Diego County. He even picked my next rescue, Capt Tiberius. Mr. Wiggles brought great joy and companionship to my life. That is what rescues do! Not only do you save a life when you take in a rescue, a rescue can bring joy and happiness to your own.
Best Friends Animal Society mission is "No Kill" in US shelters by 2025. Its a challenging goal and Best Friends is working hard to achieve it. No kill means people like you and me need to do our part. Next time you want a new pet, go to an animal rescue not a puppy mill.
