Best Friends Animal Society is working to open the Best Friends Pet Resource Center in Northwest Arkansas, designed entirely around integrated services for both ends of the leash. The center will be a “best-in-class" model of a community-supported shelter that demonstrates how best to serve pets and communities across the country while filling critical local service gaps in Northwest Arkansas. Scheduled to open next summer, in 2022, the vibrant space will improve the lives of families and pets in the community by aligning with Northwest Arkansas’s legacy as a community that pursues bold, innovative solutions that set the region apart locally and nationally. It will be the largest facility for animals in the region and will serve an estimated 13,000 dogs and cats each year. The approximately 20,000-square foot center will be a bright, open, and inviting community destination with indoor and outdoor spaces for people to interact with the animals, and with each other as visitors, volunteers, and potential adopters.
Since it was founded in 1984, Best Friends Animal Society has helped reduce the number of dogs and cats killed in shelters nationwide from 17 million per year to about 625,000. That's incredible progress, but it means 1,700 dogs and cats are still being killed in America's shelters every day, simply because they don't have safe places to call home. That number should be zero. And if we work together, it can be.
That's why I created this fundraiser.
