Rescue Haven Foundation is participating in Strut Your Mutt, a fundraising walk hosted by Best Friends in NYC on October 5th. Why do we Strut? We strut to raise awareness that every day, about 2,000 dogs and cats are killed in America's shelters, simply because they don't have safe places to call home. Each one of the animals is a loving pet just like yours and mine.
I am excited to be walking to save lives for the 6th consecutive year! Amazingly, this year has brought many changes in my life, I retired from "Day" job last August, and I’m in the mist of selling my home and searching for a new one, leaving my town, neighbors, friends, businesses and family that are at arm’s reach. With so many changes going on, there is always the one constant, rescuing animals!
When people say you are way busier after you retire, BELIEVE THEM!! I have never had my days so filled from dusk to dawn doing something involving animals. It's been crazy, heartwarming, joyful, hopeful, tearful and sometimes downright heartbreaking, but through it all I have never been happier and more fulfilled or determined to continue our mission here at Rescue Haven Foundation! I thank heaven for RHF and oddly enough, not unlike the animals we rescue, it has been the one constant in my world too!
What we do here at Rescue Haven Foundation is what I am most proud to be a part of. We have chosen to help those animals that need us the most, whether it be behavioral, injured, abandoned or medical, we welcome them with in with open arms and give them all that we can to restore their bodies along with their souls! Some rescues like Violet, Milton, Chloe never got the chance to move into a home of their own, but they got to experience compassion, love, comfort and a warm cozy bed to call their own just the same.
This year I have had the amazing opportunity to welcome in my Fospice, Genesis! She was found as a stray in NYC and brought to a inner city shelter. Genesis has been diagnosed with a hernia, vision impairment and breast cancer. (Shhh, she doesn't know it). She is such a dream, happy and loving each new day, the lessons she is teaching me will live forever in my heart and I am able to pass each lesson on to my fosters. I truly feel I am the one who is blessed to be able to share the last months of her life with her and feel privileged hold her paw as long as she needs me.
So why do I strut?? For Genesis, Violet, Milton, Rhett, Stitch, Chloe, Angie and all the dogs at Rescue Haven that are here now and those that have passed through our arms. It is not without the support of my friends and family that I get to wake up and do this every day. At Rescue Haven we get to save lives and since the only way the dogs can repay us is through lots of licks, we need financial support from everyone around us.
Please support me by making a donation to my page and remember no donation is too large or too small, if you can't donate sharing my story is just as generous! All donations will go directly to the RHF Medical Fund (less a small percentage for administrative costs and transaction fees incurred by Best Friends)!
Thank you for your support!
