For the past several years my rescue, Rescue Haven Foundation, has participated in this annual walk and every year I become more and more proud of the work that we are doing. My entire life revolves around dogs, and that's far from an exaggeration. From the moment I wake up until the moment I go to sleep and sadly even in the middle of the night, my mind goes to animals and how I can help them. Most people don't see what we see on a daily basis. The stories are heart-wrenching, the abuse is unimaginable and the neglect and mistreatment is unfathomable but it's what keeps us going, it's what keeps us wanting to save more lives.
Rescue Haven has made a choice to save some of the most difficult dogs, whether it's the behaviorally challenged or the medically needy ones. Marvin, Anna, Xena, Rhett, Genesis, Dawn, Red, Dharma, Violet and Angie, just to name a few, came to us with either a medical issue, a behavioral issue and a few of them with both. Some of them succumbed to their illnesses even after we went above and beyond for their medical care, the others are either thriving in their foster or forever homes or lucky enough to have very patient and loving adopters who continue to work on and manage their lives with the ongoing support from our dog training and behavior experts and our veterinary team.
Some days are overwhelming, we experience burnout, depression and compassion fatigue. However, because of the kindness, generosity and ongoing support from people like you, it encourages us to continue because we know we have this incredible team behind us.
So on October 5th I will STRUT for the ones we have saved, for the ones we have lost, for the ones we continue to help heal, and for the ones that will cross our paths and enter our lives as we continue this journey we call rescue.
If you can't join me please help me reach my goal! I promise that every single penny goes directly to our dogs.
Strut Your Mutt is a fundraising walk hosted by Best Friends that saves the lives of homeless pets right here in our community and all across the country.
This cause means so much to me and I am grateful for your help. Every day, about 2,000 dogs and cats are killed in America's shelters, simply because they don't have safe places to call home. Each one is a loving pet just like yours and mine.
Thank you for your kind support.
