I'm setting up this page to honor my dear friend who recently passed away, Chris Luck or Cluck as he was affectionately known by many. I also want to honor his amazing family, Annemarie, Ronan, and Gracie as well as their menagerie of pets here and gone, some of whom were adopted from CAWS (particularly Vari and Bob, but they are ALL special).
Chris was a dear friend of me and my husband Jonathan for decades. Our friendship didn't originate by our shared love of animals, and yet we celebrated that bond year after year. Cluck, among other things, was dear to our hearts as someone who totally got what an animal means as the 'Keeper of your Soul' (Go Varii). Cluck also taught us an appreciation in fearlessness, impeccable German engineering, spirituality in the most creative of ways, and a sense of humor that he and Annemarie shared that, if bottled, could help many relationships thrive.
My page is incredibly personal for me, as someone who co-founded CAWS and as the person who personally rescued and matched Bob the cat with Cluck and Annemarie. Bob and Cluck had a complicated relationship, indicitive of many of the most important relationships in our lives. Bob clearly prefered Annemarie as his favorite, and Cluck occasionally taunted Bob by messing with Bob's bob-tail (ergo Bob's name). But the love was clearly there.
I personally rescued Bob while a volunteer of CAWS, in a dire situation involving a house fire, hoarding, and me rushing in with my big net, hoping to save the kitty victims of the fire. CAWS, and their amazing volunteers, didn't hesitate to come to the aid of these felines, despite the challenges. This spirit is what continues to make CAWS such an amazing organization- they do what it takes to help those most in need.
So many years after this rescue and after many years of Bob loving his life with Cluck, Annemarie, Ronan and Gracie; me and Bob were together at the moment when we said our final goodbye to our dear friend Cluck, as Cluck journeyed onto his next adventure after his long battle with Sarcoma.
Please help me honor Cluck's legacy by ensuring more animals in need get not only the homes they deserve, but also the opportunity to be the 'Keepers of our Souls'.
