Happy 15th Anniversary, Coastal German Shepherd Rescue!
Meet Estrella, pictured in the photo above. In June, Coastal was alerted to an urgent case, Estrella, a tiny puppy (only 13 pounds), had sustained severe injuries to her hip and hind legs after being hit by a car. The shelter gave us two days to save her or they would euthanize. We had to help! Despite being in tremendous pain, Estrella smothered her rescuers with kisses and tail wags as they picked her up from the shelter to bring her to Coastal's veterinary team. X-rays revealed that the bottom of her femur and the top of her tibia on her right leg were broken. Additionally, the force of the impact not only dislocated her left leg, but caused the femur head to be pulled out of the socket, fracture, and push upward.
After two successful surgeries - one to repair Estrella's femur fracture and pin her tibial fracture and another to perform an FHO procedure on her left hip to remove the broken ball - Estrella is doing very well and recovering in a great foster home.
For 15 years, Coastal German Shepherd Rescue, a non-profit 501(c)3 public charity based in Orange County, has been dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned dogs, like Estrella, in Southern California. Our family began fostering dogs for Coastal in 2013, shortly after we lost our German Shepherd, Wolfie. We thought helping dogs in need was the perfect way to honor Wolfie and it turned out to be more rewarding than we ever could have imagined. We adopted two Coastal rescues and continue to foster dogs for this wonderful organization.
Coastal is an all volunteer run organization, with no paid employees, and they depend 100% on your generous tax deductible donations, to save hundreds of dogs from high kill shelters every year. They save the unwanted seniors, the discarded dogs who need medical care, and so many more. In 2018 alone, Coastal was able to rescue and place over 50 puppies in loving homes, find forever homes for over 250 mature and homeless adult dogs, and care for approximately 100 additional dogs waiting patiently for thier forever homes.
Please join us in our support for Coastal German Shepherd Rescue by donating to our fundraising page. Your donation is tax deductible and Coastal German Shepherd Rescue keeps 100 percent of the money raised after transaction fees. And the best part? That money will help Coastal save the lives of more dogs who otherwise wouldn't have a second change at life.
Thank you for your support!
