I am participating in Strut Your Mutt with One Love Pit Bull Foundation for my very own Caddie! Caddie is silly and naughty and makes me laugh every day. She spends much of her time socializing my foster kittens and making me laugh. If you ever want to see THE cutest videos check out #caddieloveskittens. Caddie has twice escaped her crate and both times ate my vegan cupcakes take over the world cookbook. Caddie got the opportunity to be part of a family. I am strutting to raise funds to try to make this a reality for more of our shelter dogs.
Please consider a donation to help me reach my fundraising goal.
She is my soul pup She was rescued off the freeway and made my heart whole. My journey with Caddie began on 7-17-11. I was driving on the Black Canyon freeway access road and it was raining. I was stopped at a light and up ahead I saw something move in the gutter. There was a semi truck next to me and as the light turned green, I realized that movement was a dog about to get smooshed by that semi! Luckily, this dog turned sideways just as the semi went by and I quickly pulled over to see if I could catch it. I pulled out my shelter slip lead and went to work trying to capture this emaciated, ragamuffin dog. I began tossing handfulls of boring, dry dog food (it was all I had) out onto the shoulder and to my surprise, the dog started eating it! I got out of the car but the dog moved towards the on ramp. My heart is pounding and my hands shaking that this dog will run back into traffic or down the on ramp to the freeway. I spoke softly and put some food in my hand with the neck of the slip lead looped around my wrist. I crouched down and this dog came over! She sniffed my hand then looked up into my eyes and licked my chin...I felt so many things at that moment. I quickly slipped the lead on but still spent 20 minutes trying to convince her to get her into the car even if she was only 36 lbs lol.
She wasn't meant to be a foster fail...she screamed and chased the cats after I brought her home. I didn't think she was a fit and I had only ever had 1 dog. Then we found out she had cancer, a TVT. Thanks to the wonderful vets at BAH and friends, I was able to fundraise for 1/2 the money to treat her. She'd been with us 4 months at this point. Then Matt chimes in...well now I think she should be part of our family. SOOO I go about re-introducing her to the cats to see if I could make it work and after 6 more months...it's announced, she is home to stay!
