Just over 2 years ago, I adopted Opal from the South San Diego County Shelter. Opal has improved my life in so many ways and encouraged me to work harder every day to better the lives of dogs just like her and other animals in need. Opal has helped me to advocate for “pit-bull-type dogs” and pet adoption, acted as a role model and foster sibling for a number of puppies and kittens, and even volunteered as a Humane Education dog at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
Since our cross-country move from San Diego to New York, she has spent her days doing what she does best - lounging alongside her brother Poppa (pictured here). Since moving here, I have had the pleasure of working alongside an incredible team of constantly inspiring and passionate volunteers and co-workers at Muddy Paws Rescue NYC.
In October, we are participating in Strut Your Mutt for Opal, all of the dogs that are currently in our care, and all of the animals that we have helped placed in forever homes. We are also walking to help raise awareness about the animals that are still in the shelter system or never made it out. Any contribution, whether it's big or small, all goes directly towards helping these wonderful creatures live the lives they deserve.
