It may surprise some of you Austinites that I'm on a Strut Your Mutt team outside of Austin - outside of Texas entirely. Unless you live near Arlington, VA, I doubt you've heard of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, and I understand why that makes it difficult to donate. Let me explain a little bit about what they do, and why they're worth your money.
First, they're not a city shelter. They're not just working with stray kittens and puppies. Instead, they're taking in animals from high-kill rural regions in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and even Puerto Rico.
This leads to the second point: they save lives. The animals pulled into LDAR care are coming from situations where euthanasia is their only option. Many of their residents were in high-kill shelters for no fault of their own, and at risk of death simply because they were out of time.
Finally, they need you. LDAR takes in well over a hundred animals on a monthly basis, giving them a second chance at life, and in order to keep doing that they need funds. Imagine what it takes to care for your pets and multiply it - remembering that shelter animals often present with medical issues that require even more resources.
Donate to LDAR. Help them save innocent lives.
