I’m walking to save the lives of homeless pets!
This year, I’m participating in Strut Your Mutt, a fundraising walk hosted by Best Friends that saves the lives of homeless pets right here in my community and all across the country.
Saving the lives of homeless pets became very important to me when I adopted my dog Stormee. Stormee was dropped off at a shelter in Idaho Falls and then transported to the Utah Humane Society. When I saw Stormee at the Humane Society, she was not visible in her kennel because she was curled into a little ball by the door. Once I noticed that she was in her kennel I opened the door and took her out for a walk. She was very scared and timid. I had just started my second semester of law school and I was not sure whether I would be the best provider for her. After thinking about it for the night I went to the Humane Society the next day and adopted her. This was the best decision I had made in my entire life. I did not realize how much I actually needed Stormee. I was very stressed and was not taking care of myself in the sense of getting out and going for a walk or leaving the law school for a break.
A year after adopting Stormee, I went through a rough time due some life events and I found myself very umotivated and depressed. One day I did not want to get up for the day, but then Stormee joined me in the living room and brought me back to reality. I realized I needed to get up to take her for a walk and I could not just lay around because she depended on me. Stormee has been a companion that brings me happiness whenever I am down. Ever since this experience with Stormee, it has become very important to me to help people and animals find a companion. I started fostering with Rescue Rovers in 2017 and I have fostered a little over 20 dogs. I try to give as much of my time to volunteer at adoption events or in other aspects in the rescue.
Most of the dogs in Rescue Rovers were homeless and are very grateful to have a bed to sleep in and food to eat. Seeing a dog tansform over time while fostering them is amazing, but the special moment that makes fostering very worth while is seeing them go home after being adopted and seeing how both the human and dog benefit from eachothers companionship. Adopting Stormee helped me take care of myself and ultimately provide once a homeless dog a home. Who rescued who?
Please support me by making a donation to my page. Your gift helps homeless pets and will support the animal welfare group I’ve chosen to walk for.
This cause means so much to me and I am grateful for your help. Every day, about 2,000 dogs and cats are killed in America's shelters, simply because they don't have safe places to call home. Each one is a loving pet just like yours and mine.
Together, we can Save Them All and reduce that number to zero. Thank you for your kind support.
