Sato is slang for "stray dog" in Puerto Rico. Satos are usually small to medium-sized dogs that are smart, healthy and quick to bond with those who give them affection. They often have the #squattysato body as we call it - a lot of low-riders! As with most mixed-breed dogs though, we cannot adequately describe the myriad of personalities and beautiful mixes that come from the combination of breeds on the island.
There are an estimated half a million satos in Puerto Rico. Before Hurricane Maria, the estimate was 200,000. And the problem just continues to grow.
We have saved nearly a hundred this year alone, but that is just a small dent. In order to have more impact, we need your help! We need volunteers and donations.
Please join us either by registering for our team or donating to one of our team members. We would love to have you join our walker pack on October 5th.
Together, let's save the satos!
