2020 Strut Your Mutt Day

Pet Prevent A Litter of Central Texas (PALS)

Please support PALS as we strut to save the lives of homeless pets!

Thank you for visiting our Strut Your Mutt Team page. The team at Pet Prevent A Litter (PALS) has been helping people and pets right here in central Texas for three decades. It is our goal to stop the births of unwanted litters which add to the community’s burden, taxpayers’ expenses and sadly, often result in the deaths of surplus pets in shelters. Our programs allow people to afford to keep their pets, especially during these difficult financial times. We dream of empty animal shelter cages and a time when there are forever homes for all cats and dogs.

The mission of Pet Prevent a Litter (PALS) of Central Texas, a non-profit organization, is to help end pet overpopulation and pet homelessness. Hays County benefits when there are fewer animals impounded to the already overflowing regional animal shelter. The PALS mission originated as part of the Hays County No-Kill Initiative.

PALS clients are those members of our community living in poverty: the elderly, disabled, the unemployed, underemployed, on public assistance, social security, or welfare. PALS programs include:

  • Spay/neuter for cats and dogs to stop litters of unwanted surplus pets. We provide vouchers for free dog and cat spay/neuter surgery to the underserved members of our community and hold cat spay/neuter clinics at our facility. We hope to expand the number of clinics and eventually add dog s/n to our PALS clinic services. With your help and more volunteers, we can do these things!
  • A Pet Pantry that provides emergency food for pets to help keep them in their homes.
  • PALS Community Cat program that loans traps and empowers people with resources for sterilizing free-roaming cats thus ending the cycle of birthing of stray cats. Kittens and tame cats are rescued into our Foster Cat program and adopted to forever families.
  • Our annual Pet Fest, held in October, is our largest free community education event. We also participate in local parades and festivals to bring awareness of our programs to the community.

One of the reasons we are so excited to join Strut Your Mutt is because we will not be able to hold our traditional Pet Fest due to the COVID-19 crisis. We are planning our own series of pet-friendly activities over the next few months and hope to have our virtual Strut Your Mutt in Hays County on October 24th!

Please join us either by registering for the PALS’ team or donating to one of our team members. Your donation is tax-deductible and each participating animal welfare organization keeps 100 percent of the money raised after transaction fees. And the best part? That money will help save the lives of homeless pets.
