I’m walking to save the lives of homeless pets! This year I am strutting for Shelby.
Shelby was a foster who came to us in August 2015. She had been taken to a shelter by her family when they were getting divorced and neither wanted her. She had lived with this family her whole 8 years.
I had gone to our boarding place for a different reason and there was Shelby. Beautiful, older, covered in lumps and bumps, and so excited to see me. In an instant I decided to bring her home with me to foster.
I got home and let Paul know what was going on. Shelby went to him, peed in front of him, and climbed up into his lap. It was love at first sight.
Shelby had surgery to remove all her bumps. She looked a little like Frankenstein's monster but took it in stride. Nothing bothered Shelby. She was so good natured.
We put Shelby up for adoption but she got little interest. She was older, black, big. She had many strikes against her. After having her with us for a little over 2 months we made her ours.
Adopting Shelby was the best thing we ever did. She was perfect. She got along with everyone. Every person, every dog, every cat. She took all of our fosters under her wing and loved them all. There wasn't a person or animal alive who met her and didn't love her.
At the end of 2018 we started to see her limp. She was 11 years old at this point. We weren't to worried but had her checked out when it didn't go away after a couple days. Sadly we found that Shelby had cancer in her leg. There was nothing we could do. We were devastated. We lost her on January 27, 2019.
I cannot explain what Shelby meant to us, especially Paul. Her took her passing so hard. Shelby lived a wonderful life with us. She was so loved and loved so much in return. Our lives are better because of Shelby.
We would not have known her love without CAWS. They do so much for the animals in our community and beyond. They saw a dog who needed a home and allowed us to give that to her.
Please support me and CAWS by making a donation to my page. Your gift helps homeless pets and will support the animal welfare group I’ve chosen to walk for.
This cause means so much to me and I am grateful for your help.
Together, we can Save Them All and reduce that number to zero. Thank you for your kind support.
