I'm very excited to again be participating in this year's Strut Your Mutt as a member of NorCal Boxer Rescue's team!
I started to volunteer for NorCal Boxer Rescue after my first dog, Walter (a boxer from an all-breed rescue) died at around 14 years of age. After all Walter had given me, I needed to pay it forward to the boxers, and I could not stand by while dogs who had the potential to be as important to somebody's life as Walter was to mine were killed due to homelessness. Since then, I have been so lucky to share my life with more wonderful boxers from NorCal Boxer Rescue. First there was Tasha, the most fiercely devoted and joyful dog I will ever know. Next we adopted Tasha's foster brother, Lucky, the most angelic soul to grace this earth. After Tasha and Lucky died within months of each other, I adopted Daisy, my dear girl whose love was the greatest gift. After Daisy died, I adopted her foster brother, Bentley. He is a tender-hearted little bear who is always by my side. Each of these beautiful souls has enriched my life immeasurably.
I know that every dog has the capacity to be somebody's best friend, and I'm grateful to be supporting an organization that is as devoted to saving lives as NorCal Boxer Rescue is. As an adopter and as a volunteer for the past eight years, I have witnessed firsthand the extraordinary lengths that the organization goes to rescue boxers, to provide them the often extensive medical care they need, the comfort of a warm foster home, and the security of a carefully screened forever family.
I also am continually impressed with the organization's dedication to understanding and fulfilling their role in the no-kill movement. Purebred boxers who need help are rarely young, healthy, happy boxers. Those dogs are adopted from the shelter. NorCal Boxer Rescue prioritizes the dogs who truly are the most vulnerable, knowing that those dogs - the old, the ill, the injured, and those needing behavioral intervention - are more costly to care for and are slower to adopt.
Please help me support the important work NorCal Boxer Rescue does by joining NorCal Boxer Rescue's team or by donating to my fundraising page. Thank you!
