I’m walking to save the lives of homeless pets like Nick!
This year we are shooting for the stars with an ambitious goal of raising $10,000 for AAHA Rescue. Will you help us save more dogs in need by making a donation or joining our team? Every dollar helps.
We will feature one of our team member's reasons for joining and choosing AAHA in a weekly post called 'Why I Strut'. Kicking us off today is AAHA president, Lizzie.
"I started volunteering with AAHA rescue seven years ago. What first attracted me to this rescue and why I strut to support them and the animals they help is their kindness and willingness to help any animals at the kennel where I began as a walker and animals anywhere in need. They do not give up on “difficult to place” animals and they always try to put the animals first. They help the hard dogs who need us most being a “pit bull friendly“ rescue and of course they have the most awesome volunteers! The pups that we have come to get to know in this work are amazing and I am lucky to have known each of them.
I adopted a very special dog, Libby, who was placed at the kennel by another rescue four years before I was a walker and left her there due to her not being an “adoptable dog” due to her past trauma. AAHA helped me to get to know her, adopt her and learn how to transition her into my home.
I also adopted my current dog, Nick. He is an amazing pup in so many ways even though he was difficult to adopt out due to his fearfulness and bite history.
Both of these dogs have taught me the most important things...that there is a home out there for dogs with special needs if we just learn what the animal needs from us and manage them in a certain way. They have taught me that animals can change with love and patience. Euthanasia does not have to be the answer for them.
My life would not be the same without knowing them both... "
