Justus is our rescue with the greatest will to live and love.
Justus was living as a stray in South Carolina. About 3-months before we rescued him, Justus was shot several times when someone tried to kill him. The bullets fractured his front right leg. This was a horrific injury and shattered his leg into splinters, but that luckily stopped the bullets going into any of his organs, though some of the bullet pieces are lodged in the fat layer of his abdomen.
Somehow Justus managed to survive living as a stay with a shattered front right leg and about 3-months later he was hit by a car. This caused permanent nerve damage to his front left leg, but this was actually his lucky day, as the women who hit him stopped and called animal control. From there he went to the local kill shelter and we rescued him from there.
Justus saw the top two orthopedic specialists in the country, but sadly it was too late to do surgery on the leg with the bullets as the shards of bone and bullets had fused together. Instead, Justus did months of intensive rehab with one of the top rehab specialists in the country. He went from not being able to walk to now he loves going on leisurely 20-30 minute walks ..... and for longer hikes he has a state-of-the-art stroller! He needs to go for periodic rehab maintenance for the rest of his life and regular check-ups with the orthopedic specialists to make sure his legs are stable.
Justus is one of the sweetest, kindest, and gentlest dogs to walk the planet. We have no idea why someone would want to kill him, but he will only know love and safety for the rest of his life.
