Dear Friends of Rescuzilla,
Thank you for visiting our Strut Your Mutt page! Today and every day, homeless animals in America's shelters are in need of help -- to keep pets with their owners, to prevent unwanted litters through spaying and neutering, and to increase adoptions and give each one the chance it deserves to be someone's beloved companion.
This year, two dogs that have gotten that chance through Rescuzilla were Tiptoe and Veronica. Here are their stories:
Veronica was brought to the shelter in late 2019. She was a small, older dog who had been so neglected that her matted fur caused irreparable damage to her hind leg. She spent 4 months at the shelter, recovering from a leg amputation and being diagnosed and treated for bladder stones, mammary gland tumors, and a progressive heart condition. We knew Veronica's medical needs would be a costly financial burden and would require specialized adoption counseling, but she had paid too high a price already and deserved a second chance. She became a Rescuzilla dog in February and after several grooms, extractions, ultrasounds and echocardiograms later, she finally found her perfect match! Her new parents were looking for a new friend for their senior shih tzu Cupcake, a 14-year old with plenty of veterinary experience, and they were ready for all her regular check-ups and anything else she could throw at them. Veronica fit right in to the routine with Cupcake, two kids and a yard to enjoy, and the rest is history!
In March, when the world was turning upside down, we rescued Tiptoe. Found in critical condition with wounds all over her, she had survived severe trauma and healed physically, but not emotionally. She was afraid of her own shadow, terrible on leash, and overwhelmed by basic experiences. In foster care, the quiet sidewalks helped her learn to walk calmly and she desensitized to the sounds of neighbors and television. As she came out of her shell, she emerged as a complete goofball who could learn to sit on clue and play games and we knew she was ready. Then came Lu and Gina, two of the most perfectly special people who truly understood what she needed. Today, Tippy is a permanent part of their incredible family! She greets them with excited nibbles in the morning, wrestles with her doppelganger brother, and supervises at mom's feet while she works. Even the bossy cats and the Roomba couldn't scare her away from this happy ending!
For Veronica, Tiptoe, and thousands of animals like them, the money team Rescuzilla is raising will go directly to save lives, fund adoption programs, spay/neuter services, and keep animals out of shelters. Please support these life saving efforts by making a tax deductible donation today.
