My name is Signe Corbin and I am one of the cofounders of Pug Rescue Austin and their medical director. I have over 38 yrs experience as a veterinary technician and I'm currently a senior vet tech at Westlake Animal Hospital where I've been employed for the last 33 yrs. Pug Rescue Austin was formed in May, 2009 with the intent of saving pugs in need in Central Texas. To date we have saved about 2000 pugs and pug mixes. People ask me why there are so many pugs that need to be rescued. There are many reasons. Some are strays, some are runaways that nobody claims. Many are giving up due to financial issues, divorces, owners passing away, deployment, behavior issues, illness and some are confiscated due to neglect. We are fortunate in over 13 years to have never said no to a pug in need. We unfortunately have had to close intake to mixes a few times but again never to purebred pugs. Incredibly IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS WE HAVE RESCUED 214 PUGS AND CURRENTLY HAVE 96 RESCUES IN FOSTER HOMES. We have had as many as 110 at once in foster homes. There are more pugs coming in so we will be back over 100 in foster soon. I rescued my first pug in 1992 and officially started helping to rescue pugs in 2005 with DFW Pug Rescue. There was such a need in our area it was natural we formed our own Austin rescue. PLEASE consider donating so we can continue to help all the pugs out there just waiting for Pug Rescue Austin to come rescue them and give them the attention, medical care and loving home they so desperately need and deserve. This is something they would never have a shot at without our intervention. GO TEAM PUG RESCUE AUSTIN!!
